Summer Camp Lifeguard - Camp Fowler

Position: Summer Camp Lifeguard (Seasonal) (June - August) ($8.50/hr - $15.50/hr)

Location: Camp Fowler, Orefield, PA

Essential Functions of the Summer Camp Lifeguard:

  • Maintain the safety of all people in and around the pool area.
  • Conduct swim tests to assess the swimming level of potential swimmers.
  • Remain alert and use all senses while guarding.
  • Perform first aid and emergency care treatment when required.
  • Work as a team with other lifeguards..
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pool area.
  • Assign and delegate tasks to aquatic observers.
  • Complete all necessary injury reports.
  • Set up the waterfront area for specific activities according to the weekly program schedule.
  • Weekly testing of swimming water; record results and report to supervisor.

Minimal Qualifications for the Summer Camp Lifeguard:

  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate, or be willing to complete the required trainings and pass the standard for the lifeguard training certificate (including swimming and rescues).
  • Professional experience working with children from diverse backgrounds.
  • A mature individual with the ability to identify with and adapt to the goals and philosophies of Positive Youth Development and embraces the core values of Camp Fowler.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Enthusiasm, patience, and self-control
  • Experience supervising staff in a professional setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a camp nurse or in a similar role in an outdoor or school setting.
  • Knowledge of common camp-related injuries, illnesses, and prevention measures.

Physical Requirements for the Summer Camp Lifeguard

  • Movement around the pool area. X Constant
  • Capacity to work long hours in various weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and rain, while maintaining energy and enthusiasm. X Constant
  • Capacity to perform basic first aid and CPR, including kneeling, bending, and other physical movements required in emergency situations. X Constantly
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. X Occasionally
  • Walking, hiking, and movement across the camp's 43-acre property, which includes uneven terrain, wooded areas, and hills, multiple times a day. X Constant
  • Willingness and ability to participate in and demonstrate camp activities, such as hiking, swimming, team-building exercises, and other outdoor activities. X Constant
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25-50 pounds, which may include supplies, equipment, or assisting with setting up activities. X Occasionally
