Essential Functions of the Summer Aquatics Specialist:
- Writes detailed lesson plans that include clear outcomes and objectives aligned with the camp's vision, mission, and applicable academic standards, ensuring each program supports holistic wellness and educational goals.
- Lifeguard Training and Certification: Conduct lifeguard certification and recertification courses, ensuring all staff meet the required standards. Ensure all lifeguards are CPR and First Aid certified and prepared for any water-related emergencies.
- Lifeguard Scheduling: Create and maintain a lifeguard schedule that ensures adequate coverage at all times when the pool is in use by campers, staff, or other visitors. Adjust schedules as necessary based on pool usage, weather conditions, and camp activities. Ensure all scheduled shifts are properly staffed, and handle any last-minute coverage needs.
- Pool Safety and Supervision: Monitor pool activities to ensure the safety of all swimmers and adherence to pool rules. Oversee the setup and take-down of all pool-related equipment. Conduct daily checks of pool safety equipment, including life-saving devices and first aid supplies, ensuring they are in proper working order.
- Pool Maintenance and Operations: Oversee the cleanliness and chemical balance of the pool, coordinating with maintenance staff for regular cleaning, water testing, and equipment repairs. Conduct daily inspections of the pool area, ensuring a clean, safe environment for all users. Maintain detailed records of pool chemical levels, maintenance schedules, and incident reports.
- Leadership and Team Management: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the lifeguard staff to ensure they are performing their duties effectively and adhering to safety protocols. Provide guidance, support, and feedback to lifeguards, addressing any issues as they arise. Act as the primary point of contact for any pool-related incidents or concerns.
Minimal Qualifications for the Summer Aquatics Specialist:
- Must be a certified lifeguard instructor with the ability to train and certify lifeguards.
- Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and lifeguarding.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with experience managing a team.
- Previous experience working at a pool or aquatic facility, preferably in a leadership role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with campers, staff, and visitors.
- Ability to manage lifeguard scheduling, pool maintenance, and safety protocols.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a camp setting is a plus.
- Knowledge of pool chemical management and routine maintenance procedures.
Physical Requirements for the Summer Aquatics Specialist
- Capacity to work long hours in various weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and rain, while maintaining energy and enthusiasm. X Constant

- Walking, hiking, and movement across the camp's 43-acre property, which includes uneven terrain, wooded areas, and hills, multiple times a day. X Constant

- Ability to lift and carry up to 25-50 pounds, which may include supplies, equipment, or assisting with setting up activities. X Occasionally
