Mentoring Specialist

We are currently looking for a qualified applicant to fill the following position: FT - Mentoring Specialist - ($18hr - $20hr)


Job Description: Under the direct supervision of the Social Work Supervisor/Mentoring Coordinator, the Mentoring Specialist is responsible for the matches in the Mentoring Program, organizing events and trainings while providing support and guidance to both youth and mentors, completing documentation, and completing associated tasks as assigned.

Critical Functions:
  1. To successfully identify, engage with and recruit youth interested in the mentoring program.
  2. To facilitate matches between youth and mentors, based on interviews, youth/mentor interests and match meetings.
  3. To facilitate and participate in  events designed to further the program including recruiting events, match events, group activities, and life skills workshops.
  4. To maintain ongoing communication with both youth and mentors to ensure that all relationships remain positive, focused and in line with the program goals/guidelines.
  5. To engage in both in person and digital outreach and marketing to engage youth and mentors in the program
  6. To work in collaboration with other AIC staff and programs as needed to support members and matches.
Essential Functions:
  1. To immediately report any safety concerns to the Program Coordinator.
  2. To complete, in a timely manner, all program related paperwork/documentation and maintain files in a professional manner within the established time frames.
  3. To represent the program in a professional manner and maintain positive community relationships.
  4. To respond to crisis situations in a proactive manner based on program protocols and address client misconduct from a positive youth development perspective.
  5. To actively participate in weekly supervision with his/her supervisor, be prepared with an agenda, and follow through with supervisory directives.
  6. To follow the policies, procedures, and rules stated in the agency personnel policies, employee handbook, and program procedure manual.
  7. To serve as a positive role model for youth and other program/agency staff.
Other Duties:
  1. Understand and adhere to Valley Youth House policies, practices and procedures.
  2. To participate in weekly scheduled supervision with direct supervisor and be prepared with an agenda.
  3. To attend and actively participate in team meetings.
  4. To attend both external and internal agency trainings and workshops and complete and pass all required trainings as set forth in the funder and licensing regulations as required.
  5. To complete other related tasks as appropriate or assigned.


Qualification: The Mentoring Specialist shall have experience working with youth, and performing outreach.  They will be a mature individual capable of engaging with youth and mentors effectively. They will function well independently, be able to take initiative in growing and sustaining the program. They must be able to facilitate groups, workshops, and trainings for youth and adults. They must be familiar with, or willing to learn digital marketing and outreach strategies. They must have and maintain a valid driver's license and ability to operate agency vehicle. They have never been convicted of any child abuse offense.  Bachelor's Degree is preferred.  They shall be available to work evenings throughout the week and on weekends, as needed.
